I Defy

I Defy                                 ©Michael Raucci 2013

I defy that the sins of the father are to be borne by the son

That the wisdom of the old is lost on the young

That a whole is always equal to the sum

I defy the boundaries that righteous men set
The parameters of my minds genetic codex
The cowardly decrees of the politically correct

I defy that the good will always finish last
That society is doomed to replay the past

That a life lived slow trumps a life lived fast

I defy that there is no meaning in verse

That any man should wield the power to curse

That there is solace in knowing for others its worse

I defy that I must relax and quell my desires
That I should never play with fire

That wealth is the goal to which all men aspire

I defy… I defy… I defy

I defy that which blurs my humanity
The demons which infringe upon my sanity

And any vacant display of vanity

I defy brutality, formality, and neutrality

I defy hatred born of nationality

I even defy my own mortality

I defy the lies of politicians

All of the world’s superstitions

That Peace can come with pre-conditions

I defy that opportunity should be limited by birth

That the color of skin can define one’s worth

That the fuel of society should be ripped from the Earth

I defy the establishment and its monotony and I defy You to change it.
